Alliance for Women in Media Announces Support for Women’s March in Washington, D.C. on January 21
January 18, 2017 (WASHINGTON, DC.) – The Alliance for Women in Media has announced their support for the mission of the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday, January 21.
The event in Washington, D.C. and at partnering locations across the country was created for people to stand in solidarity with partners and children for the protection of rights, safety, health and families – recognizing that vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of The United States of America.
“The Alliance for Women in Media proudly supports the effort to recognize, to support and to raise awareness of the immense contributions made by women to our country, our economy and our culture,” said Kristen Welch, AWM Board Chair who is planning to attend the Washington D.C. march. “AWM values the strength that comes with diversity. Recognizing and connecting women is at the core of our mission. I encourage all members of AWM and the media industry to unite, this weekend and every day in a peaceful, respectful manner.”
Keisha Sutton-James, AWM Board Treasurer, will join a sister march in New York City on Saturday. “I am planning to march with my daughters for a number of reasons: I wish to teach them – through action – that we have the freedom to express ourselves and that we must do so in order to advance our issues. Further, I am always seeking examples of strong, complex and accomplished women as role models for my girls. This march exemplifies those principles and its organizers and its attendees embody that example.”
Hundreds of thousands of women are expected to join the Women’s March on Washington, taking place on January 21. The Women’s March on Washington is a women-led grassroots movement that will bring together people of all genders and backgrounds to take a stand on social justice and human rights issues ranging from race, ethnicity, gender, religion, immigration and health care.
