LOS ANGELES, CA (October 5, 2021) – The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation presented the 46th Annual Gracie Awards.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards were held virtually and streamed on the foundation’s Facebook page.

 Highlights from the awards include:

  • Simone Biles presented Taylor Swift with the Gracies Grand Award for her documentary “folklore: the long pond studio session”:, to which Swift said, “I wanted to say, first of all, thank you Simone Biles for presenting this award to me. I absolutely adore you and, um, that just really made my heart skip a beat.” The presentation also featured footage of Swift performing “folklore” with her collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner in-studio.
  • Proclaimed the “Kindest Man in Hollywood,” actor Henry Winkler presented Gayle King with the Gracies Award for “Best Hard News Feature – Interview” for her work on the CBS special “Breonna Taylor: Her Life, Death, and Legacy.” The segment featured heart wrenching clips of Gayle’s interview with Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker, with Gayle noting the sense of responsibility she felt to tell this story.
  • Glennon Doyle presented Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton with the Gracies Awards for “Best Entertainment Podcast Host” for her podcast, “You And Me Both with Hillary Clinton”. Notable moment from the evening include:

  • Host Lauren Ash kicked off the evening celebrating the women who have been speaking their truth by sharing their stories and highlighting the theme of bravery. “It’s really important to celebrate our female friendships, because at the end of the day they’re not mad if you’re making more money than they are.”
  • Throughout the night, Sheryl Crow took to the stage performing a three-song medley, including her hit single, “If It Makes You Happy,” which she accompanied on piano. Generations of Gracie

It is call for entries time again for the esteemed Gracie Awards and for me this reminds me of the extraordinary work the Alliance for Women in Media does to honor and embolden women in our fast-paced industry. It also reminds me of a truly special afternoon I shared several months ago with deeply inspiring women from all levels in the business… and all ages. I have been blessed in my decades (yes, decades!) in the broadcasting field to attend many awards ceremonies, but being a part of the Gracies as a presenter and multiple recipient, has been one of the more powerful and profoundly moving times in my career.
