ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA FOUNDATION HONORS HOFSTRA GRADUATE STUDENT FATIMA MOIEN WITH HER FIRST EVER GRACIE AWARD WIN AND SCHOLARSHIP LIVE ON THE VIEW

Today, the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) surprised Hofstra student, Fatima Moien, on ABC’s The View that she is one of AWMF’s winners of the 48th Annual Gracie Awards. Additionally, Becky Brooks, president of AWMF, presented Moien with a $10,000 scholarship generously donated by ABC News and The View in honor of Barbara Walters. Moien was taken by the gleeful surprise as she heard the news live from the studio audience. She was joined by her parents. 

Moien, a graduate student in Hofstra’s MA Journalism program, was recognized for her work as the on-air talent for the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication’s “Live from Studio A”. The series brings influential media and communications professionals to campus to share their personal stories, advice, and wisdom with Hofstra students. The series is intended to be interactive, vibrant, forward-thinking, and inclusive.

Honoring a Young Journalist Following in Barbara Walters’ Footsteps

The Gracies recognize outstanding programming and individual achievement created by women, for women, and about women in all facets of media in news and entertainment. Moien alongside fellow local and student award-winners will be recognized at the Gracie Awards Luncheon on June 20 at Cipriani in NYC. 

National winners, which include Christina Applegate, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Ava DuVernay, Faith Hill, Amanda Seyfried, Danielle Monaro, Shelley Wade, Abbott Elementary, TODAY, The Drew Barrymore Show, 48 Hours, along with frontline journalists,and some of the most talented women in television, radio/audio and digital media, will be honored at a gala event on May 23 at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel in LA. 

This year’s theme, “Storytelling,” highlights and celebrates the narratives shared by the winners, which not only inform, inspire, and captivate audiences, but also enrich our collective comprehension of the world.

The Alliance for Women in Media and its Foundation Announce the 2022 Board of Directors & Officers

February 16, 2022 (New York City/Los Angeles) – The Alliance for Women in Media and its Foundation (AWM/F) are pleased to announce the 2022 National Board of Directors and Officers. New to the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) Board are: Catherine Badalamente, Vice President & Chief Innovation Officer (Incoming CEO), Graham Media Group; Monica Bloom, VP of Marketing, First Look Media; Thea Mitchem, Executive Vice President of Programming, iHeart Media; Marie Tedesco, Chief Financial Officer, Beasley Media Group. New to the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) Board are: Tim Clarke, Senior Vice President, Digital Audio Content, Audacyand Vicki Lins, President and CEO, CTAM.

Officers of the board have been announced as Heather Cohen, Executive Vice President, The Weiss Agency, serving as chair; Annie Howell, Chief Communications Officer, Crown Media Family Networks (Hallmark), serving as incoming chair; Keisha Sutton-James, CEO & Founder, Sutton Button Productions LLC, serving as immediate past chair; Brenda Hetrick, Chief Revenue Officer, Matrix Solutions, serving as treasurer, and Katina Arnold, Vice President, Corporate Communications, ESPN, serving as incoming treasurer. 

“The role of the AWM and Foundation boards is to lead our organizations and industry as we recognize, connect and educate women in all facets of media.” stated Becky Brooks, president, AWM/F.  “The past two years have proven that leadership of an organization is critical to navigate through uncertain times. It is as important as it’s ever been to have insightful, diverse leadership. This year’s directors are dedicated to donating time and resources to guide us to the next level.  We are thrilled to have these talented, accomplished women and men guiding our strategic initiatives.”

The following leaders will continue to serve as Directors at Large of AWM: Marsha Cooke, Vice President & Executive Producer, ESPN Films and 30 for 30; Abby Greensfelder, Founder & CEO, Everywoman Studios; and, Katherine Wolfgang, Head of Public Relations, CBC. TAYLOR SWIFT, JEWEL & LAUREN ASH RECEIVE SPECIAL HONORS AT THE 46TH ANNUAL GRACIE AWARDS

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 5, 2021) – The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation presented the 46th Annual Gracie Awards.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards were held virtually and streamed on the foundation’s Facebook page.

 Highlights from the awards include:

  • Simone Biles presented Taylor Swift with the Gracies Grand Award for her documentary “folklore: the long pond studio session”:, to which Swift said, “I wanted to say, first of all, thank you Simone Biles for presenting this award to me. I absolutely adore you and, um, that just really made my heart skip a beat.” The presentation also featured footage of Swift performing “folklore” with her collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner in-studio.
  • Proclaimed the “Kindest Man in Hollywood,” actor Henry Winkler presented Gayle King with the Gracies Award for “Best Hard News Feature – Interview” for her work on the CBS special “Breonna Taylor: Her Life, Death, and Legacy.” The segment featured heart wrenching clips of Gayle’s interview with Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker, with Gayle noting the sense of responsibility she felt to tell this story.
  • Glennon Doyle presented Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton with the Gracies Awards for “Best Entertainment Podcast Host” for her podcast, “You And Me Both with Hillary Clinton”. The segment features Glennon’s recap of her invitation to Hillary’s podcast where she was so excited, nervous, and over-caffeinated that she woke up her wife with a handmade poster that read, “It’s Hillary Clinton Day!”
  • Award-winning actress Caitriona Balfe accepted the award for “Best Actress in a Leading Role – Drama” for her dynamic role as Clare Fraser on the Starz series Outlander. The award was presented to her by actor and director Adam Rodriguez.
  • This year’s Gracie Awards coincides with the  Alliance for Women in Media Foundation’s (AWM) 70th Anniversary. During a celebratory moment that recognized AWM’s history, featuring archived photos and original documentation from the organization’s founding members, Becky Brooks (President, AWM) and Heather Cohen (AWM Board Member) presented event host Lauren Ash with a special anniversary Legacy Award.
  • AWM Foundation and Ford Empowering America Scholarship recipient Omose Ighodaro presented the award for “Best Ensemble Cast” to “Mrs. America.” Cast and crew members including Cate Blanchett accepted the award, popping bottles of champagne and virtually raising a glass to one another in a Zoom celebration.
  • Television host and sportscaster Charissa Thompson presented her best friend and fellow award-winning sportscaster Erin Andrews with the Gracies Award for “On Air Talent – Sports”. During her presentation, Thompson recalled the first time she met Andrews 13 years ago at one of her first jobs, and reminisced about the immediate camaraderie she felt woman-to-woman in a field dominated by men.
  • Actress Kelly Hu presented Peabody Award-winner Mo Rocca with the Gracie Award for “Best Entertainment Podcast”. Rocca hosts the podcast “Mobituaries” and was recognized for the episode entitled, “Anna May Wong: Death of a Trailblazer,” that tells the story of Hollywood’s first Chinese-American superstar and the societal, industrial, and legal adversity she faced.

The awards also featured musical performances by Jewel and CeCe Winans. Between her acoustic performances of “No More Tears” and “You Were Meant For Me,” event host Lauren Ash presented GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Jewel with the Gracies Impact Award. Later, GRAMMY award-winning American Gospel Singer CeCe Winans closed out the show with a performance of “Never Lost.”
